Rapid Precision CNC Machining

Complex parts can be CNC machined from a wide range of composites, plastics and metals with additional options for wire and spark eroding where necessary. Our growing, dedicated CNC machining facility located near our head office on the outskirts of Darlington produces components for prototyping and low volume batch manufacture, as well as patterns, tools and Jigs and Fixtures.

CNC machines are programmed by our dedicated team using advanced Autodesk, PowerMILL and PowerSHAPE software. Being ISO 9001 approved further ensures that high quality components are machined every time.

What is CNC Machining?

CNC machining is a subtractive process whereby parts are manufactured from engineering-grade materials through a high-speed milling process. During the CNC Milling process, a solid block of the chosen material is clamped into a CNC machine and cut into a finished part. Our range of 3- and 5-Axis CNC mills allow the machining of multiple features in a reduced number of steps than alternative manufacturing processes, thus saving process time and part cost.

CNC Machining for Rapid Prototypes

We can offer metal and plastic CNC machined parts to fulfil most requirements for concept styling models and rapid prototypes, where very tight tolerances are required. Applications include:

  • Vehicle interiors
  • Large device enclosures
  • Transparent components such as lenses and light guides. Specific materials can be used for individual applications, such as clear acrylic with a vapour polished finish to achieve complete optical clarity.

CNC Machining for Low to Mid-Volume Batch Manufacture

The CNC milling process also offers a cost-effective solution for the manufacture of one-off or low volume metal and plastic machined components that are indistinguishable from moulded parts. Production runs of up to a few hundred of end-use parts can be delivered at a competitive cost per part, without having to lay down expensive production tooling.

CNC Machining for Pattern Making and Tooling

Our CNC machines also produce large master patterns for both Vacuum Casting and RIM moulding processes, which sometimes offers a more cost effective solution than some of the 3D printing laser processes. Alternatively, we can machine the mould tools directly from high density model boards or aluminium. Tool life into low hundreds can be achieved depending on choice of moulded material as well as superior part accuracy.

CNC Machining for Gauges, Jigs & Fixtures

We can design, manufacture and assemble a range of customised jigs and fixtures to enhance your manufacturing process. Our expanding engineering team offers mechanical design support and 3D Scanning capabilities to support your product development process. Working with our CNC experts, all gauges, jigs and fixtures are developed to fit your exact specification, complying with stringent quality standards for complete confidence in achieving durable, stable and repeatable parts.

Surface Finishes, Tolerances and Small Features

  • Unless otherwise specified, tolerances of +/- 0.1mm can be expected.
  • CNC machined parts can be finished with cosmetic or protective coatings, including anodising and plating options.
  • Small features may be achievable, including text, threaded parallel or perpendicular holes, grooves etc.
