Paragon Rapid Technologies has been showcasing its recent developments for the Automotive sector as part of the prestigious Advanced Engineering Show in Birmingham.
Now in its 4th year, the Automotive Engineering section of the event offered thousands of visitors a feast of information on new technologies, materials and innovative developments within the sector.
During the 2-day event, Paragon demonstrated how its Rapid Prototyping services are supporting product development for key manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers in the industry, driving them forward to achieve results. The benefits of 3D printing and Additive Manufacturing technologies, as well as more traditional casting and moulding solutions for verification and low volume production applications are adding value for Paragon’s growing customer base, helping them to bring their products to market much more effectively.
Visitors to the Paragon stand at the Show also had the opportunity to build their very own model car made from different materials and to watch a professional model maker demonstrate some finishing techniques.
Models on display included the “Shock Rod” sports car produced by Paragon using its Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) process from 3D CAD data kindly supplied by Adrian Clarke at Coventry University. The SLS process involves the fusing of nylon particles layer by layer to create a durable, functional component with excellent mechanical properties. Although this process is used heavily for prototyping, it is now becoming more prevalent in low volume manufacture. Superior SLS lead times due to an additional 50% capacity has positioned Paragon as a choice supplier for many key players in the Automotive sector.
