Filter Housing

Filter Housing Project, 2006

Product:
This underbonnet application is an oil filter housing for use on commercial engines.

Client Brief:
To supply a series of rapid prototypes for evaluation and field trials, suitable for full mechanical  testing at operating temperatures.

Action:
Paragon initially supplied SL models for fit testing and then subsequent vacuum castings for assembly and mechanical testing. The material selection, processing and post curing was critical, to give a true representation of the production materials and to offer high temperature capabilities.

Paragon were supplied with cast aluminium rocker covers which were then machined to allow the fitting of the filters through the use of vacuum cast adaptor units, to simulate a redesigned cover.

A total of 22 sets were supplied in 2 batches of 12 and 10 with the second stage including minor design changes.

Result:
All parts were delivered within the required timescales. Paragon's customer was able to fully evaluate their design and present vacuum castings to their customer as the parts were so representative of production components. The success of this project has given them the confidence to use vacuum castings in this application for future developments.
