VitalLink3, 2006
Product:
The VitalLink3 is a unique vital signs monitor for use in remote/mobile locations such as expeditions, marine and airline environments.
Client Brief:
Initially to supply a full assembly of SL models for design evaluation and proving of fit and assembly and then the subsequent production of silicone tools and vacuum castings in order to supply complete sets of mouldings in various colour combinations, to be fully representative both visually and functionally of the final injection mouldings. These models would also be required for field trials in various environments and pre-production marketing and trade exhibitions.
Action:
SL master models were produced, including models of the case rigid substrates and the 2-shot substrate and overmould combined. Once extensive finishing had been carried out, the master patterns were used to create silicone rubber tools for vacuum casting production, implementing advanced tooling techniques to create the soft jacket, water tight buttons and integral seals.
A range of polyurethane rubbers were selected specifically to allow full pigmentation of the vibrant colours.
A total of 20 complete sets of vacuum castings were produced in a range of colour combinations. This also included a set in V0 rated, fire retardent material to allow assessment for aviation applications.
Result:
The final vac cast assemblies were so representative of the production parts, both visually and functionally and allowed accurate assessment of the product through extensive field trials around the globe.
The prototype models have also enabled the end customer, Telemedics to proceed in full with their marketing campaign, with the production of product brochures, marketing literature and website promotion which has generated significant interest and definate sales prior to launch of the full product units during 2007.
